Qush Tepa canal’s first phase to complete in next 40 days

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The first phase of Qush Tepa Canal has been 80 percent completed and the remaining portion will be completed in next 40 days, officials said on Monday.

General Director of the mega project Sayed Zabihullah Meri said about 80 percent digging work of the first phase had been completed and the remaining work would be done within 40 days.

In addition to the digging work, a water head and two bridges on the Hairatan-Mazar road were also being constructed, he said.

One the other hand, engineers and workers are happy to be part of the largest project.

Eng. Nasratullah Amiri, one of the engineers of the project, said foreign engineers would work on such projects in the past, but he was pleased having the opportunity to work in Qush Tepa canal.

Mahmood, worker of a contracting company, said he also felt happiness working in the project.

Abdul Hakeem Hikmat, head of the Northern River Zone, said with completion of the canal project, the irrigation water problem of farmers would be solved and Afghanistan would become self-sufficient in production of grains.

Currently, around 3,000 machineries and more than 5,000 people are working on the huge project.
