150 beggars rounded up from Uruzgan capital Tirinkot

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): One hundred and fifty baggers have been rounded up from Tirinkot, the capital of southern Uruzgan province, in which 74 were recognized as professional baggers, an official said on Wednesday.

Social Affairs Department Executive Director Noorullah Rahmani told Pajhwok Afghan News: “In the past two months 150 baggers had been rounded up in which 74 were recognized as professional baggers.”

Rahmani who is also the member of committee responsible for rounding up baggers said: “A four member committee was tasked two months earlier to round up baggers in the province and identify vulnerable people.”

During the period he said 150 baggers had been rounded up in which 100 were women and 30 were children.

He said during these baggers 47 were professional baggers and the remaining were vulnerable people.

One of the baggers Bibi Malika said she has five children and had to bag to feed them. She asked government and other aid providing organnisations for continued support.
