11 killed, 30 injured in Badakhshan prayer service blast

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen people were killed and more than 30 others injured when a bomb blast targeted participants of a memorial ceremony inside a mosque in northeastern Badakhshan province on Thursday, the Ministry of Interior said.

Based on preliminary information, the ministry said 11 people were killed and more than 30 injured in the explosion inside Nabwi mosque in Faizabad, the provincial capital.

The explosion took place at around 11am during the prayer service for Maulvi Nisar Ahmad, deputy governor of Badakhshan province, who was killed on Wednesday in a car bomb attack.

The Ministry of Interior condemned the incident, saying suppressing and destroying the perpetrators of such incidents would continue.

The ministry said further details about casualties would be shared later.

Earlier, Badakhshan Information and Culture director Maazuddin Ahmadi said former police chief for Baghlan province, Maulvi Safiullah Samim, also lost his life in the attack.
