PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Public Health Department head for central Logar province says he is trying to increase the number of midwives in the province.
Currently 110 midwives are working in health facilities in the province and they cannot provide full services to female patient.
Hafiz Sayed Rahman Qadiri told Pajhwok Afghan News that the current strength of midwives in the province was not enough keeping in view the number of female patients.
He said he was trying to increase the number of midwives in Pul Alam and district hospitals in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health and some international institutions.
Qadri added: “We have made recommendations to the Ministry of Health and some institutions to increase the number of midwives in our government hospitals so that better services can be provided to female patients.”
Similarly, Sadaf Saleh, a midwife at the Logar Provincial Hospital, also told Pajhwok that the number of midwives in the province should be increased.
According to her, MoPH should also appoint more female doctors and midwives in government hospitals so that patients are properly served.
Fatima, a resident of Logar, said although health services had improved recently, women in rural areas continued to face many problems during childbirth.
