Mutual understanding, interaction between IEA, UN stressed

KABUL (Pajhwok): Solution to Afghanistan’s economic and humanitarian crises lies in interaction between the United Nations and the caretaker government, a minister said on Wednesday.

Acting Minister of Economy Qari Din Mohammad met UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) head Feridun Sinirlioğlu and his delegation, the former’s office said in a statement.

Qari Din Mohammad said direct dialogue, understanding and interaction between the Islamic Emirate (IE) and the UN could improve the current economic situation of the country, saying Afghanistan’s economic situation should not be politicized.

Both sides discussed and exchanged views on strengthening relations between Afghanistan and the international community with focus on development programs to improve the country’s economic situation.

Feridun Sinirlioğlu welcomed improvements in Afghanistan and emphasized on strengthening ties between the Islamic Emirate and the international community.

He promised to cooperate with the leadership of the Ministry of Economy to continue humanitarian aid and support dialogue and understanding in order to improve the country’s economic situation.

Qari Din Mohammad Hanif said international sanctions and the freezing of Afghanistan’s assets had caused economic challenges in Afghanistan.

Hanif called for removal of the restrictions and the release of the central bank’s assets.
