QALAT (Pajhwok): A number of businessmen during a meeting in Qalat, the capital of southern Zabul province, decided to do all their business transactions in the afghanis from now on.

Speaking on the occasion, Zabul chamber of commerce and investment director Haji Abdul Qadir said businessmen could play a key role in strengthening the local currency and they should try to cease doing transactions in foreign currencies.

He said a firm determination was required by businessmen to prevent transactions in foreign currencies in the province.

Haji Humayun, another businessman, said all the businessmen of Zabul had decided to buy and sell things in the afghanis only in order to stop the circulation of foreign currency in the province.

He said all businessmen agreed to do transactions in the afghani only and to cooperate with the government in promoting the local currency.

Zabul officials also asked businessmen to cooperate with them in promoting the afghani and preventing the use of foreign currencies.

Local officials say afghani banknotes in Zabul are available sufficiently and they can provide new banknotes if businessmen want.

They welcomed the decision of traders and said that afghani was a national identity and it was their joint responsibility to promote it.

Da Afghanistan Bank branch representative in Zabul, Barylai Muzammil said they were ready to help traders if they encountered problems in doing transactions in the Afghan currency.

He said traders could play an important role in customizing afghanis and hoped transactions in foreign currencies would come to a halt.

Muzammil said no doing transactions in foreign currencies in the country wasin the interest of all citizens, including businessmen.

The government has banned transactions in foreign currencies in the country.
