SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): State land measuring more than 50,000 acres has been recovered from usurpation in northern Sari Pul province, an official said on Wednesday.

Qari Abdul Qadir Wahdat, agriculture, irrigation and livestock director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Land Grab Prevention Commission that consists of 11th organs had been able to wrest back 51,849 acres of state land from usurpers in the past 10 months.

“The usurpers had turned state land into agriculture fields against the law and the government has responsibility to recover the land from usurpers so that all people can benefit from it in a fair way,” Wahdat said.

He added the land grab prevention commission would continue its efforts to recover all usurped government land.

Meanwhile, residents of Sar-i-Pul welcomed the recovery of state land from usurpers.

Ihsanullah, a resident of Sayyed Abad district, said every powerful person had usurped state land and had sold it or given to their relatives, but now the land grab prevention commission was reclaiming the state land and the people welcome the effort.

Abdul Ghafar, another resident of Sar-i-Pul city, said: “It is pleasing to know that the government has reclaimed the state land from usurpers.”
