PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Chinese state-owned enterprise MCC has practically started constructing a 25-kilomter road to the Mes Aynak copper mine in central Logar province.
Mohammad Agha district chief Maulvi Mir Muhammad Hashim Hizballah told Pajhwok Afghan News the road would connect Mandokhel village of the district with the main Kabul-Logar highway.
He said the 25-km long and 30-meter wide road was being constructed by MCC and will take one year to complete.
He said the road would not only make it easy to reach Mes Aynak mine but would also connect dozens of villages with the main highway.
He hoped news about progress in extracting copper from the Mes Aynak mine would be shared soon with Logar residents.
Logar residents are also happy with the construction of the road.
A resident of Mohammad Agha District, Khial Mohammad, told Pajhwok that he was happy that practical work was launched on the road after many years.
He complained the government and the Chinese company MCC had been promising since years that extraction of copper would be started soon and thousands of people would be employed, but nothing happened so far.
He asked Logar officials and the MCC to accelerate their efforts at starting extraction works at the mine.
MCC officials had said they would launch extraction works at the Mes Aynak mine once ancient artifacts were removed from the site.
