ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and US State Department delegates will meet in Doha to discuss critical interests in the war-torn country.
In a statement the State Department said: “Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West and Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights Rina Amiri will travel to Astana, Kazakhstan, and Doha on July 26-31.”
The statement added: “While in Astana, they will meet with colleagues from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan for a C5+1 Special Session on Afghanistan.”
The US special envoys would also meet civil society members on ways of advancing women’s economic empowerment in Afghanistan and Kazakhstan.
In Doha, the West-led team will also meet a delegation of the caretaker government and technocratic professionals from key Afghan ministries to discuss critical interests in Afghanistan.
Priority issues will include humanitarian support for the people of Afghanistan, economic stabilization, fair and dignified treatment of all Afghans, including women and girls, security issues and efforts to counter narcotics production and trafficking.
However, the caretaker government in Kabul has said nothing so far about the upcoming meeting with the US delegation in Qatar’s capital.
