FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of Ab-Khorma area in Fararud district of western Farah province say about 800 families live in the area, but there is no school since years and their children are deprived of education.

The provincial Department of Education also acknowledges the complaints of Ab-Khomra residents and say the area is 25 to 30 kilometers away from schools.

Sultan Mohammad, a resident of the area said, there were 15 villages in the area where about 800 families lived, but there was no school and their children remained deprived of education.

He said schools existed in the district center where a vehicle took 40 minutes to reach and children could not go there on foot.

He asked the government to provide education facilities for their children.

Sher Agha, another resident of the area, said there was no school in their area and their children had no access to education.

He added the economic situation of the area people was not good and they could not afford to facilitate their travel to the district center.

Haji Abdullah Jan, a resident of Dawlatabad village, said: “Not only in Dawlatabad village, but in the entire Ab-Khorma area, there is no school and children are deprived of education.”

He asked the government to provide education facilities to all areas as security had been ensured across the country.

Provincial education department officials also acknowledge there is no school in Ab-Khorma area which is 20km away from the district center.

Maulvi Akhtar Mohammad Zaeem, director of the education department, told Pajhwok Afghan News there was no school in Ab-Khorma area and the area was 25 to 30km away from schools and children could not go there.

He said: “We have not been given new local classes and therefore there is no school in Ab-Khorma area.”

He added now only two local classes were active in Ab-Khorma area and they had no money to build a school.

The four decades of war has negatively impacted the country’s education system besides other departments and people in remote areas are complaining about lack of schools.
