LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The Public Health Department in southern Helmand province has shut 11 more pharmacies, including an international medical equipment centre, for selling expired medicine, an official said on Thursday.

Maulvi Mohammad Qasim Riaz, deputy director of information and culture, told Pajhwok Afghan News a commission formed by the Public Health Department had monitored 68 pharmacies a day earlier.

As a result of the monitoring process, the official said, 23 drug stores, including Mohammaduddin International Centre for Medicines and Medical Equipment, were closed for selling expired medicine.

He said representatives of the provincial government, intelligence service, police headquarters and municipality were part of the commission, which also included a public health law review team.

The commission also seized a large amount of expired drugs from the pharmacies, Riaz said.

Earlier in the week, the commission had closed 20 pharmacies in the same province.
