TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Following complaints of athletes about lack of a suitable sports place in norther Takhar province, a young man has built a sports gymnasium by spending seven million afghanis.

Zabihullah Rahimi, owner of the gymnasium, told Pajhwok Afghan News the purpose of building the sports club was to solve problems of athletes. He said football and futsal games would be played at the gymnasium.

Rahimi said athletes did not have a suitable place for sports so he built the sports gymnasium in Yangi Qala district following frequent requests of the athletes.

He said these athletes would play their games without any concern.

According to Rahimi, the gymnasium cost seven million afghanis which and has the capacity for 650 spectators at a time.

He added most of the young people in Mawera Kokcha district were interested in football, volleyball and futsal games and the lack of a proper place had been a serious issue for them.

This gymnasium was built in a standard way in five months, he explained.

The young man said: “We strive to overcome the concerns of athletes and football and futsal games will be started in this gymnasium.”

However, Mohammad Sharif, a sportsman in Yangi Qala district, expressed his happiness with the construction of the first sports gymnasium in the district, and asked government officials and other businessmen to build more such gymnasiums and complexes to encourage the youth to play sports.

Meanwhile, Ahmadzia Haqjo, Takhar sports director, welcomed the establishment of the gymnasium and commented such places were effective for the growth of sports and encouraging young people.
