PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior has launched work to extend an electricity line to Barak Baraki district of central Logan province, an official said on Saturday.
Deputy Interior Minister Maulvi Abdullah Mukhtar Hussaini told the inauguration ceremony in the district that the electricity extension line to Baraki Barak district would cost 20m afs and would be completed in next five months.
He said the electricity would be first connected to the district and police headquarters and then distributed to common people by the electricity department.
He added 176 new electricity poles would be installed in Barki Barak district and 12 megawatts of electricity would be connected to the district.
According to him, in the next few days, 196kw of solar power plant will be handed over to Pul-i- Alam, the provincial capital.
Logar Governor Maulvi Zia-ul-Rahman Madani said, “Extension of electricity to Baraki Barak district was an important need and with the completion of this project, the problems of the people will be solved.”
He said they were trying to start practical work on supplying electricity to the remaining districts and villages of the province.
Local residents were also happy about the project.
Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Baraki Barak district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the government should extend electricity lines to all areas of the district.
According to him, since last seven years, electricity imported from Uzbekistan has been connected to Pul-i-Alam only and other areas remained in dark.
Currently the imported electricity is given to only 10,000 consumers in the provincial capital and work on extending an electricity line to Mohammad Agha district has been started. This line will consume 27 million afghanis and will be put into service in the next few days.
