Fire guts boys high school in Nuristan

PARON (Pajhwok): A devastating blaze caused by electricity short-circuit gutted Shaheed Mir Alam Naseh high school for boys in eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Saturday.

Muhammad Issa Turabi, the school principal, said the school building was severely damaged and 10 classes and administrative rooms were gutted in the fire.

Ibrahim, a teacher, said an electricity short-circuit caused the fire that also reduced to ashes some documents of teachers and students.

According to him, the fire could not be controlled on time and caused a lot of damage due to the lack of fire extinguishers.

Fazl Haq Khaliqyar, head of Information and Culture, also confirmed the incident

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the fire broke out on Friday morning.

Hikmatullah Tand, Education Department media officer, also said the school suffered a loss of nearly three million afghanis.

Shaheed Mir Alam Khan High School is located in Pushki village in Paron, the provincial capital.
