Russia willing to invest in Afghanistan railway projects

KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia is interested to invest in railway projects, especially the massive trans-Afghan railway project, says the Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA).

ARA wrote in its Facebook page that ARA director Mullah Bakhtal Rahman Sharafat, who is currently in Russia, met with adviser to Russian president Ramazan Abdul Latifov.

At the meeting, Ramazan hailed security in Afghanistan and said Russia was interested to make investment in Afghanistan’s railway projects, especially the Trans-Afghan railway project to connect Central Asia with South Asia.

He said Russia would hold a Russia-Afghanistan friendship conference next year regarding investment in Afghanistan projects.

“A joint committee of regional countries should be established for better coordination, and Afghanistan will have a permanent representative in it and will hold online meetings every month,” the Russian official was quoted as saying.

According to ARA, Sharafat invited Russia to invest in Afghanistan railway projects and assured that the Afghan government, especially the Railway Authority, would cooperate with investors and would provide them with necessary facilities.

A delegation headed by Mullah Bakhtal Rahman Sharafat is in Russia to participate in the Astrakhan World Forum.
