‘Agriculture sector development can counter dependency on aid’

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Efficient use of water resources and development of agriculture sector are vital to reduced dependency on foreign aid and strengthen people economically, an official said on Tuesday.

Acting Rural Rehabilitation and Development Minister Mullah Mohammad Younis Akhundzada during a meeting with local officials, ulema and residents in Bamyan province said that he was determined to ensure food security in the country by managing water resources and constructing water reservoirs.

Mawlavi Younus stressed over improved infrastructures of rural areas and added one of the ways to improve public economic condition and reduce dependency on foreign aid would be water management and agriculture development.

Mulllah Ziaullah Khadem, head of the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, said after the political change and the takeover by ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ (IEE) over 210 development projects worth over 253 million afs had been implemented in Bamyan province.

According to Khadem, the construction of roads, water reservoirs, agricultural canals, bridges, culverts and dozen other projects included in the implemented projects.

Bamyan governor Maulvi Abdullah Sarhadi stressed over infrastructure development and the construction of of water reservoirs to further strengthen the economy of the people of this province and added such projects leave positive impact on public economic development.

He assured monitoring the development projects and urged more attention from the MoRRD to the infrastructure development of Bamyan and addressing the need of people in far-flung areas of the province.
