Women indispensable part of development, growth: UNAMA

KABUL (Pajhwok): UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) head Roza Otunbayeva says women are indispensable part of any national journey of transformation, development and growth.

Addressing ‘International Conference on Women in Islam’ in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, she called restrictions on Afghan women worrisome.

“The message of the OIC and its member states, the collective voice of the Muslim world must be heard in Afghanistan that women are indispensable part of any national journey of transformation, development and growth”, she said.

The three-day conference concluded with the adoption of “Final Declaration” and the “Jeddah Document on Women’s Rights in Islam”

Earlier, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Monday opened the conference organized by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The conference highlighted the successes of Muslim women and their role and contribution to the development of OIC member states.

Otunbayeva also met with officials from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Indonesia, Pakistan, Islamic Development Bank, stressing the need for strong engagement, humanitarian support and on initiatives to support women of Afghanistan, UNAMA wrote on its X handle.
