Over 7,500 refugees return from Pakistan in 3 days

KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 7,500 Afghan refugees have returned to the country from Pakistan via Tokham and Spin Boldak crossings during the past three days, the Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation (MoRR) said on Saturday.

MoRR wrote on its X handle 766 families, comprising 7,560 individuals, returned to the country from Pakistan through Torkham and Spin Bodak during last three days.

It said the returnees also included four prisoners who had been released from jails in Pakistan.

It added the returnees were introduced to the offices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHR), International Organization for Migration (IOM), Danish Migration Council and the World Food Program (WFP) for further assistance after being registered in the Immigration Department.

Four orphaned children were also among the returnees who were introduced to MPO for assistance.

Earlier, Pakistan had set November 1 the deadline for undocumented Afghan refugees to leave the country or face mass deportations and detention.  About 1.4 million undocumented Afghans live in Pakistan.
