ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A dam is being built at a cost of two billion afghani in northwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Monday.

The facility in the Khashrod district would cost two billion afghanis and construction work on the project would begin soon, the official said.

Recent droughts had harmed farming in this province, the director noted, hoping the problem would be addressed with the construction of the dam.

The Afghanistan National Radio and Television Authority wrote on its X handle the dam was being built in compliance with orders from IEA’s Supreme Leader Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada.

It said a professional and technical board was being formed by the ministry concerned to launch work on the big dam.

The dam will have the capacity to store six million cubic metres of water and irrigate 8,000 hectares of land in Gulistan, Delaram, Ghori and Chakhansour districts.
