PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif wants his country to focus on mending its relations with Afghanistan and other neighbours.

Besides pursuing détente with Afghanistan and India, he also called forfurther cementing Pakistan’s cooperative ties with Iran and China.

Addressing a meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Parliamentary Board in Lahore on Saturday, Sharif opined Islamabad should focus on proactivediplomacy on the world stage.

The former premier asked: “How is it possible for Pakistan to achieveimproved global status if neighbours are upset with it?”

He stressed: “We have to mend our relations with India and Afghanistan and strengthen them further with Iran and China.”

Kabul-Islamabad relations have been strained over mass deportations of undocumented Afghan nationals from Pakistan.

The nation should know that Pakistan’s economic destruction began in 2019 and continued till 2022, he said, claiming all state institutions collapsed during thetenure of the Imran Khan government.
