13 die, 1,000 injured in traffic accidents in Farah this year

FARAH CTIY (Pajhwok): The Public Health Department in western Farah province says 13 bodies and more than 1,000 injured people were delivered to the civil hospital from traffic accidents this year.

Deputy public health director Mullah Abdul Khaliq Din Mohammad told Pajhwok about 13 bodies and 1,019 injured had been shifted to civil hospital so far since the beginning of this solar year.

He said all the fatalities were men and the injured included 166 women and 63 children.

On the other hand, the police headquarters presented figures much different from those with the public health department.

The police office said 22 bodies and 39 injured had been shifted to the provincial hospital this year.

But the Traffic Department reported eight deaths and 22 injuries during the ongoing year.

Abdul Qayyum Mirwais, director of traffic accidents, told Pajhwok that eight people had been killed and 22 others wounded in traffic accidents so far.

He linked accidents to traffic rules violation and increase in the number of right hand-drive cars and bumpy roads.

Meanwhile, residents urged officials to enforce traffic law in order to prevent traffic accidents.

Mohammad Sadiq Mukhtari, a resident of Farah, said: “Traffic accidents have recently increased in Farah. It is a matter of concern that children are driving cars, we urge the relevant department to prevent underage people from driving.”
