Contracts worth 10.15b afs for 4 major mines inked: MoMP

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) has signed contracts worth more than 10.15 million billion afghanis with four domestic companies to extract and process four large mines in three provinces.

The contracts were inked by Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Shahabuddin Delawar with officials of the four domestic companies.

Speaking on the occasion, Delawar said the contractors would develop a coalmine in Masjid Chobi area of Karakh district of Herat, a gold mine in Qarazghan area of Doshi district of Baghlan province, an iron mine in Pashtun Zarghon district of Herat, and a chromite mine in Koh Safi district of Parwan province.

He said under the agreements, “Hazrat Bilal Khalid Limited” company will pay more than more than 151 million afghanis for the extraction and processing of the coalmine in Karkh district, “Mudssir Ashna” company in Qarazghan region of Baghlan will invest more than 124 million afghanis.

He added “Humgrayan Gharb” company will invest more than nine billion afghanis in iron extraction and processing in Pashtun Zarghoon district and “Aleem Shah Baba” company will invest more than 180 million afghanis in chromite mine in Koh Safi in Parwan province.

Delawar said these minerals would be processed at home and hundreds of people would be provided with employment.

According to the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, the agreements with the four companies are for 30 years.

Wali Muhammad, manager of Mudssir Ashna Company, spoke on behalf of the companies and assured that mining operations would be carried out in accordance with the agreements.

He sought cooperation and support from relevant institutions of the Islamic Emirate with the companies.
