Pakistan also shuts Ghulam Khan crossing to trade, patients

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): After closing Torkham, Kharlasi and Angor Ada crossings, Pakistan has shut Ghulam Khan crossing to transit trade and patients, officials said on Tuesday.

Shabir Ahmad Usmani, Khost information and culture director, told Pajhwok Afghan News Pakistani guards had closed the gate since last four days without any specific reason.

He said traders from both countries suffered financial losses due to the closure of the route.

He added talks were underway with Pakistan officials to reopen the route.

Ghulam Khan Commissioner Bahaijan Bilal said the route was not completely closed as people and cargo vehicles were allowed to enter Afghanistan.

According to him, no vehicle or patient was allowed to enter Pakistan without visa.

He said that Pakistan had closed the road against motorists and patients traveling to Pakistan without visa.

He said: “We had a meeting with Pakistani officials yesterday, but it ended without any outcome. if Pakistan does do allow our people, we will not allow their people”.

On the other hand, Nawab Amirzi, director of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said hundreds of trucks loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables have been stranded on both sides of Ghulam Khan crossing since last few days.

Enforcing visa and passport rules for drivers, Pakistan has closed Torkham, Kharlasi and Angor Ada crossings since last four days.
