3 US soldiers killed, 34 injured in Jordon drone attack

KABUL (Pajhwok): Three US soldiers have been killed and over 30 others wounded in a drone strike in Jordan, CNN reported on Monday.

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, Americans say, US troops have suffered fatalities in enemy fire in the Middle East for the first time.

The attack on a small US military outpost was blamed on Iran-aided insurgents, with officials suggesting the drone had come from Syria.

As the US Central Command confirmed the killing of three service members and injuries to 34 injured, President Joe Biden warned: “We shall respond.”

Those responsible for the attack would be held to account, he said, adding: “We know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.”

The failure of air defenses to intercept the drone, the first known attack on Tower 22 since October 17, remains unclear.

According to CENTCOM, about 350 US Army and Air Force personnel are deployed to the base, supporting the coalition against ISIS.
