Gold, flour & cooking oil prices up in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): In addition to the appreciation of US dollar against afghani, the prices of gold, cooking oil and Kazakh flour increased during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Saturday.

Afghani exchange rate

Haji Hussain, owner of the Sadaqat Money Exchange Service, said one US dollar traded at 74afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 250afs.

Last week, one US dollar accounted for 73.70 afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 255.

Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders Association, said the rate of a 49-kilogram bag of Kazakhstani flour increased from 1,500afs to 1,600afs and the cost of a 16-litre tin of Malaysian cooking oil went up from 1,400afs to 1,430afs.

He said a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice cost 2,600afs while the price of a 49-kilogarm sack of Indian sugar decreased from 3,450afs to 3,400afs.

By the same token, a kilogram of African black tea accounted for 400afs and the same amount of Indonesian green tea for 350afs.

Hamid Sufizada, a retailer at Dahna-i-Bagh Market, said the retail price of a 49-kilogram bag of Kazakh flour was 1,650afs, a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice 2,650afs and a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar 3,450afs.

A 16-litre bottle of cooking oil accounted for 1,480afs, one kilogram of black tea for 450afs and the same quantity of green tea for 400afs, he added.

Gold prices up

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold went up from 4,100afs to 4,150afs and the same amount of the Russian variety from 3,200afs to 3,250afs.

Fuel prices

A worker at the Ahmadyar Group of Pump Stations said the price of one litre of petrol remained unchanged at 63afs and diesel at 60afs.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kalola Pushta locality, sold one kilogram of the commodity for 50afs.
