Selling SIM cards above fixed rate to invite legal action: MoTIT

KABUL (Pajhwok): In response to people’s complaints about high SIM card rates, the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology (MoTIT) has fixed a SIM card rate at 100 afghanis, saying no telecom company can sell it at a higher price.

Inayatullah Alokozai, spokesman for MoTIT, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Some people had complained that SIM cards are sold at a high price.

He said MoTIT and ATRA had declared no telecom company reserved the right to sell SIM card above 100 afghanis.

He said every day in Kabul and all provinces, branches of telecom companies   were monitored to prevent this problem.

He added legal action would be taken against those found selling SIM cards at a higher price than the fixed price.

Recently, a number of citizens complained about the lack of SIM cards in the market and said they were unable to obtain a SIM card despite frequent attempts.

However, MoTIT officials told Pajhwok that the price issue had been resolved and people could obtain SIM cards from all branches of telecom firms.
