3 TB diagnostic machines activated in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Three high-capacity tuberculosis diagnosis machines  (Gene Xpert) have been installed in three district hospitals in southern Helmand province, an official said on Tuesday.

Helmand Public Health Director Dr. Syed Ahmad Saeed told Pajhwok Afghan News the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) had purchased these machines for 90,000 US dollars and were used in diagnosing tuberculosis.

He said these machines had been installed and put into service in main hospitals of Garmser, Musa Qala and Greshk districts.

Dr. Shukran Ahmad, chief of tuberculosis control at the Public Health Department, said they planned to activate the same machine in Karta-i-Lagan hospital of the provincial capital.

Earlier, two tuberculosis diagnosis machines had been activated in the province.
