1,220 absorption wells dug up in Kabul to replenish water table

KABUL (Pajhwok): To replenish the water table in central capital Kabul, more than 1,200 water absorption-wells have been dug up during the past one year, the Ministry of Water and Energy said on Monday.

The Ministry of Water and Power (MoWP) in a statement said its officials dug 1,220 water absorption wells in different parts of the city to absorb rainwater into the ground to replenish the underground water sources in Kabul city during 1402 solar year.

During seasonal rainfall, these wells have the capacity to store 79,000 cubic meters of water in a year, the statement added.

Earlier, Acting Minister of Water and Energt on October 17, 2023 had said during a meeting in northern Balkh province that MoWP had earmarked a significant amount of budget for construction of 164 check dams in the country.
