SL win T20 series as well against Afghanistan

ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Sri Lanka have trounced Afghanistan by 72 runs in the second T20 International, clinching the series at the Rangiri Dambulla Cricket Stadium.

Afghanistan won the toss and invited the hosts to bat in the second match. All-rounder Angelo Mathews smashed an unbeaten 42 off 22 balls and Sadeera Samarawickrama hit a half century to help their side set a 188-run target for the visitors.

In replay, Afghanistan slipped to 31-5 after the first 27 deliveries. They were bowled out in 17 overs.

Mathews opened the bowling for Sri Lanka and dismissed Hazratullah Zazai for 1 and captain Ibrahim Zadran for 10 to take two wickets for nine runs in two overs.

Only four Afghanistan players reached double figures. All-rounder Karim Janat top- scored with 28.

The two sides will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) in the final encounter of the series at the same venue.

Earlier, the hosts had beaten Afghanistan in the one-off Test match and three-match ODI series.
