Daily oil extraction from Amu field rises to over 1,000 tonnes

KABUL (Pajhwok): With the activation of six new wells in Amu River, the oil extraction level increased to 1,350 tonnes per day, an official said on Wednesday.

Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) spokesman Humayun Afghan reported the oil extraction hike in a post on his X handle.

The Amu oilfield includes 15 wells in Qashqari, six in Angot and three in Aaq Darya in Sar-i-Pul, Jawzjan and Faryab provinces.

With the activation of six new oil wells, the total number of wells has increased to 24.

Currently, the extracted crude oil was refined by the private sector inside the country, Afghan wrote.

Additionally, construction of roads, oil storage facilities and surveys for oilfields are also ongoing in Amu fields.

Afghan explained the government planned to drill 12 more oil wells in Qashqari, 8 in Zamarud Sai, one in Bazaar Kami and 2 in Aaq Darya areas by the end of 2024.

With the newly-drilled wells, the number of active oil wells will rise to 47 wells and daily extraction to 3,000 tonnes.

According to information from MoMP, 1,500 people are currently working in the Amu oilfields. More job opportunities are created soon.

MoMP had announced the sale of 60,000 tonnes of crude oil from the Amu field, worth about $25.5 million, for processing to a domestic company on January 30.
