Snow spell destroys 52 houses in Panjsher, Kapisa

PARAKH/ MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): The recent snow spell has destroyed 52 residential houses in central Kapisa and Panjsher provinces, officials said on Sunday.

Panjsher Information and Culture Director Nasratullah Malikzada told Pajhwok Afghan News the recent heavy snowfall destroyed ten houses and killed 100 cattle in Shatal, Rakha and Hesa-i-Awal districts of the province.

He said there were no human casualties in these incidents.

He added Governor Mohammad Agha Hakim had directed the departments of natural disaster, rural rehabilitation and development and the Afghan Red Crescent Society to assist the affected families.

Separately, about 42 houses have been partially destroyed in Kapisa province in snow and rain related incidents.

Hanifullah Hussaini, an official of Natural Disaster Management Authority, said preliminary information suggested eight houses had been destroyed in Mahmood Raqi, five in Hesa-i-Awal Kohistan, twelve in Hesa-i-Doem Kohistan, six in Koh Band, four in Nijrab and two in Tagab districts.

He said one person was wounded as a result of a roof collapse incident in Jalokhel village of Tagab district.

According to reports, fifteen people have been killed and 30 others wounded in the recent spell of snow in the country.
