Most Kunduz residents lack access to potable water

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents of northern Kunduz province are complaining about their lack of access to potable water and demand solution to the problem.

Khal Mohammad, who lives in Sher Khan Bandar town, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had no access to potable water.

They have been using contaminated water of the Amu River, causes various diseases and fetching the water home is also hard, he added.

“The river water is unhealthy, 600 families transfer the water home on donkeys or by hands and our problem should be solved,” Khal Mohammad said.

Wali Mohammad, another resident, also said: “About 600 families consume the Amu River river, which is muddy and causes various diseases”.

Other residents also complained about lack of drinking water and asked the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) to solve the water problem.

Engineering services head at the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, Atiqullah Jalili, said they had conducted a primary survey and water supply networks would be built in several villages.

He explained: “We assure Sher Khan Bandar’s villages’ residents that the primary survey has been conducted and water supply networks will be built to solve the water scarcity issue in 1403 solar year”.

Previously, Kunuz residents had been complaining about their lack of access to welfare services and had demanded the implementation of reconstruction projects in their areas.
