Tug of war, throw contests organised in Bamyan

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Rope pulling and stone throwing competitions have been held between 12 teams in central Bamyan province amid at promoting local and traditional games, an official said on Monday.

Sayed Kafeel Masavi, the Sport and Physical Training Director, told Pajhwok Afghan News these competitions were organised between 12 teams and tens of participants.

The tug of war competitions were held between 12 teams in two categories — senior and youth — today (Monday) by the Sport and Physical Training Department.

He said the purpose of holding these competitions was to introduce and promote local and traditional games in the society.

Sayed Kafeel said the Directorate of Physical Education was trying to provide the ground for holding and promoting such competitions in all the districts of this province.

Local residents welcomed the conducted of these competitions and demanded the promotion of local and tradition games.

Mohammad Amin Ershad, the resident of Bamyan City, said with the promotion of new sports, the old games had been forgotten, and in the current situation, young people are less interested in local games.

He said in the past tug of war, sailing, stoning, Buzkashi, Ghorsi and other sports had a large number of lovers in Bamyan but now new games had replaced the old and traditional games.

He said the revival of old games refresh old memories and revive old culture, he asked official to take steps for the rival of old culture in the society.
