KABUL (Pajhwok): Eight institutions have been merged into different ministries in an attempt to improve management, prevent structural inflation and reduce expenses, IEA official announced on Wednesday.

Zabihullah Mujahid, chief spokesman for Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghanistan’s Medical Council and Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority had been merged into the Ministry of Public Health.

By the same token, he said, the Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) had been merged with the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW).

He said central oil and gas laboratories of the National Standard Council, central and provincial food laboratories of the Ministry of Finance had been merged into the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

The National Olympic Committee had been merged into the General Directorate of Physical Training and Sports, Mujahid explained.

According to the IEA spokesman, employees of the merged departments would be adjusted in the ministries concerned.

He added the ministries could not be merged due to a large number of formations. He said there was a need for them to stay independent.
