KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Maulvi Abdul Kabir says the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), as a responsible government, is trying to address people’s problems.

He made the statement at a meeting with Japan’s Ambassador Takayoshi Kormaya here on Tuesday, his office said in a statement.

Kormaya extended his condolences to the victims of recent flash floods in northern Afghanistan and emphasised on positive ties between Kabul and Tokyo.

He praised the caretaker government’s progress in combating drugs, corruption, ensuring security and bringing economic stability to the country.

With no diplomatic presence in Afghanistan, Western countries did not have information about the positive changes that had taken place in the country, he noted, suggesting the international community should directly interact with Kabul.

With regard to the upcoming UN-convened meeting on Afghanistan in Doha, he said the international community sought negotiated solutions to the country’s problems.

For his part, the deputy premier hailed cooperative relations between the two countries. He said IEA was keen on benefitting from Japan’s experience in the areas of development and reduction of losses from natural disasters.

He informed the current interim government had launched work on various development projects in the country.

Kabir said IEA was trying to address all problems of the people as a responsible government and desired positive interaction with the world.
