Thousands of eye patients in Nangarhar, Logar to get free treatment

KABUL (Pajhwok): Teams of eye specialist doctors are being formed to treat thousands of eye patients for free in central Logar and eastern Nangarhar provinces, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Wednesday.

MoPH said the mobile eye health care camps were aimed at reducing the blindness in remote areas of the country.

Separately, MoPH in a statement said the eye specialists will be in Logar province from May 25 to June 6 and another camp will be established in Nangarhar from May 25 to June 8 to provide treatment to 10,000 patients.

The statement said the mobile health teams were equipped with necessary medical equipment and medicines.

The team has so far operated on 200 cataract patients and distributed glasses to 400 people after diagnosis of about 5,000 patients, the ministry added.

“Residents with eye illnesses in Logar should benefit from the health services provided by the mobile health team for free”: MoPH explained.

The mobile teams will be dispatched to Ghani Khel district of Nangarhar province to provide health services for free to residents.

These teams will examine more than 4,500 patients and perform 250 eyelid surgeries and distributed 450 near-sighted glasses to needy families in Nangarhar province.
