In disregard of ICJ ruling, Israel bombs Gaza

KABUL (Pajhwok): In disregard of the UN court order for an immediate halt to military, Israeli forces pounded the Gaza Strip, including Rafah, early Saturday.

In a keenly-awaited judgment on Friday, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) also called for the release of all hostages still held by Palestinians,

AFP reported the court directed Tel Aviv to keep reopen the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza. Israel had closed the crossing at the start of its offensive in the city earlier in the month.

However, hours after the ruling, the media outlet said, Israel conducted strikes on the Gaza Strip early Saturday.

As clashes between the Israeli forces and Hamas fighters continued, Palestinian witnesses and AFP teams reported Israeli air raids in Rafah and Deir al-Balah.

Separate meetings on the Gaza war are expected in Paris between the CIA head and Israeli representatives,  as well as French President Emmanuel Macron and the foreign ministers of four Arab states.
