KABUL (Pajhwok): A massive landside buried more than 300 people and leveled a remote village in northern Papua New Guinea.

According to Reuters, the Friday’s landslide took place at around 3:00am in Kaokalam village in Enga Province of Papua New Guinea (PNG), about 600 km northwest of capital Port Moresby.

A member of the PNG parliament Aimos Akem said more than 300 people and 1,182 houses were buried under the soil and rubbles.

Other authorities of PNG said the number of the victims could possibly rise.

Rescue teams and other government personnel have launched rescue operations in the affected area.

Landslides have also blocked roads connecting the affected area to other parts of the country, making it inaccessible by vehicles, but the rescue teams are using helicopters to reach the area.
