Iranian aid for flood victims reaches Mazar-i-Sharif

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The second shipment of Iran’s humanitarian aid for flood-affected people has arrived in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, officials said on Sunday.

The food and non-food assistance from Iran arrived at the Maulana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi Airport on Saturday and was handed over to Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) officials.

Hamid Reza Ahmadi, Iran’s consul general in Mazar-i-Sharif, said the aid included blankets, kits, medicines and other tools. He said more aid from his country would reach Afghanistan soon.

On the other hand, Mohammad Younis, head of the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society in the northern zone, appreciated Iran’s humanitarian aid for the flood-hit people.

He added the provincial authorities had formed a committee to manage the aid and deliver it transparently to deserving families.

The first batch of Iran’s aid for the flood-hit people had arrived in Mazar-i-Sharif on Thursday.

Earlier, Qatar, Turkey and Uzbekistan had provided similar assistance to the flood victims.

Recent flash floods have killed 315 individuals and injured 1,630 others in Baghlan province alone.
