Pakistan crash out of T20 World Cup

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): In their earliest-ever exit from the mega event, Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2024 as the Ireland-USA was rained off in Lauderhill on Friday.

The USA went marching into the Super Eight alongside India from Group A, also booking their berth in the 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup, a cricket website reported.

For Pakistan, ESPNcricinfo said, the inclement weather in Florida meant a hasty exit from the World Cup. They were earlier outplayed by the USA and arch-rivals India.

The back-to-back losses left Pakistan relying on other results, most importantly the outcome of the USA-Ireland game in Lauderhill.

Ireland’s victory against the co-hosts would have kept Pakistan’s hopes alive, but those hopes were washed out yesterday.

Knocked out of a T20 World Cup after playing just three games, Pakistan and Ireland are scheduled to play their last group game on Sunday. However, both are now effectively out of the tournament.
