PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The World Peace Jirga (WPJ) has underlined the imperative of removing excessive curbs on trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Businesspeople, transporters, customs clearing agents and other stakeholders attended the event at the Landikotal Jirga Hall on Wednesday.
Speakers called for easing people’s movement between the neighbouring countries via the Torkham crossing to improve Afghanistan-Pakistan relations.
Organisers said WPJ Chairman Khan Baba presided over the meeting, which stressed the need for uninterrupted trade and transport flow between the two nations.
Khan Baba made a pitch for the swift clearance of trade goods and provision of modern facilities at the National Logistic Cell’s customs terminal.
He asked Islamabad to reduce federal taxes on imports and exports to spur bilateral trade.
Khan Baba also demanded relaxation in the visa policy let stranded empty vehicles on both sides resume their journey.
The heavy vehicles have been stuck due to the strict implementation of the temporary admission document, which went into effect recently.
Cordial relations with neighbours were a must for the region’s development, speakers said, suggesting solutions for peace and free trade with Afghanistan.
