Women rally in Gardez, ask conflicting sides to reconcile

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A number of womeninfo-icon on Wednesday staged a rally in Gardez, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, and asked the Talibaninfo-icon and the government not to further delay intra-Afghan talks and be serious in this critical movement.

They said the Taliban had intensified the conflict, in which a large number of Afghans were being killed and injured daily.

Naheed Hakimi, one of the rally organizers, said foreign countries and institutions were interfering in the peace process and had created mistrust instead of confidence building.

“We have children and dreams for them similarly to the children of elites who are in foreign and doing their studies,” she said, addressing the government and the Taliban leaders.

Salemai, another participant of the rally, said the people of Afghanistaninfo-icon suffered an irreversible material and human losses during the past 40 years of the conflict. She stressed it was the time that the conflicting sides should prove their love for the country and its people by reaching reconciliation.

Khadeja, 50, said: “I lost my husband, two brothers and two cousins in the conflict. I have no home and no money to pay for a rent. I always cry and pray to Allah to bring peace and reconciliation.”

Kaenat is another participant of the rally, who lost two brothers and a third was disabled, thus leaving her in deep economic troubles.
