ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A woman on Tuesday opened a carpet weaving centre in southeastern Nimroz province, hiring ten other womeninfo-icon by investing about 200,000 afghanis.

Hossein Azizi, the center owner, told Pajhwok Afghan News at her shop’s opening ceremony here that she had invested 200,000 afghanis.

She said the purpose of establishing the shop, the first of its kind in Nimroz, was to earn money and employ poor women.

She said she was trying to expand her business and employ more women and called on the government to support her and other women doing small businesses.

The women, who worked in the shop, were satisfied with the investment, but complained about low wages which they said were insufficient to meet their needs.

“I am a widow and mother of four orphans. I work here to solve my children's problems with my daily wage,” said Maryam, a carpet weaver on behalf of her colleagues.

She said the government should support businesswomen in flourishing their businesses so they were able to increase wages of working women.

She did not say how much salary she was paid at the carpet weaving shop.

Malalai Ahmadi, head of women's affairs department in Nimroz, welcomed opening of the new carpet weaving shop and said her department would support and solve problems of women investors.
