Germany renews 21b afs aid pledge to Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Tuesday said Germany has renewed its pledge to provide 21.3 billion afghanis in aid to Afghanistan for good governance, sustainable economic development and municipal infrastructure.

According to the ministry, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development at an online conference pledged it would invest about 21.3 billion afghanis in Afghanistaninfo-icon in the said areas this year.

According to MoF, Germany was committed to further assistance with Afghanistan in various spheres in coming years.

“With this aid, Germany will fulfill its pledge of 340 million euro in civilian aid to Afghanistan, which it had promised at the Brussels conference in 2016,” MoFA said.

State Secretary of German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development Martin Laeger said, “Improving the lives of Afghan men and womeninfo-icon, boys and girls is our common goal thus working together to create jobs, fight hunger and poverty, strengthen Afghan institutions and build and maintain infrastructure.”

Laeger affirmed Germany’s willingness to continue to support Afghanistan on its path to peace and democracy.

“Any future support needs to build upon the development gains made since 2001, particularly those which have benefitted women and girls. Germany will continue to play a prominent role as a long-term supporter of Afghanistan.”

Acting finance minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal termed Germany as the second largest donor to Afghanistan and Germany has played a key role in reconstructioninfo-icon of Afghanistan since 2001.
