KABUL (Pajhwok): The cultivation, production, and trafficking of drugs in Afghanistan have significantly decreased, and have nearly reached zero, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Wednesday.

The fight against drugs and the eradication of this phenomenon is one of the greatest challenges, which requires the cooperation and joint efforts of individuals, families, countries, and international organizations, the MoI said in a statement commemorating the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

It added since the victory of the Islamic Emirate, 47,879 operations have been conducted by the anti-narcotics police forces across the country, resulting in the arrest of 17,240 suspects, the seizure of 119 tons of various types of drugs and alcoholic beverages, and 5,390 tons of chemical substances.

Additionally, 1,315 drug factories and laboratories have been destroyed, and 21,743 hectares of land have been cleared of poppy fields.

Furthermore, a 5,000-bed center for the rehabilitation and treatment of addicts has been established in Kabul, and 115,220 addicts have been collected and treated nationwide. The practical measures, success, and progress in the fight against drugs in Afghanistan, despite the short time and limited resources, demonstrate the strong determination of the Islamic Emirate to eradicate drugs from Afghanistan.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan calls on the countries of the world and international cooperating organizations to join and support Afghanistan in this important fight against drugs, whose destructive consequences harm other countries worldwide.

We seek cooperation in areas such as providing alternative livelihoods for farmers, treating addicts, and other related matters.
