KABUL Football Federation, its chief said on Tuesday. But the committee asserted its right to monitor all federations.

Kiramuddin Karim, the Afghanistan Football Federation head, told a news conference in Kabul they were an independent body, working under the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Whenever they sent players for tournaments abroad, the Olympic Committee asked them to seek its approval, he complained. The committee’s attitude amounted to plain interference, he insisted.

But Olympic Committee spokesman, Mujibur Rahman Rahmani, rejected Karim’s view. The committee was responsible for keeping an eye on all federations’ affairs.

Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, he asked: “If each police district in the capital starts asserting its independence, what role the interior ministry will be left with?”

Members of the committee had no clear job descriptions and offered “wrong advice” to their boss, Karim alleged. He denied damaging walls, windowpanes, toilets and the power supply system of their previous office.

The committee was investigating damage to the building formerly used by the federation, Rahmani said, warning those found guilty would be punished.

The federation had inflicted a loss of nearly $20,000 (908,800 afghanis) on the committee by damaging the building, he alleged.
