KABUL): Two Pakistanis were among five militants killed and a French and a Moroccan were detained during an operation in southern Zabul province, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.
The operation, involving special Afghan army commandos, was carried out late on Wednesday night in pursuit of a terrorist group in the Ghazi village, the ministry said in a statement.
Five militants, including two Pakistanis, were killed and two others – a French and a Moroccan – were detained during the offensive, it said. Some weapons, explosives and propaganda documents were also seized, the statement said.
Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, claimed that several Afghan and foreign troops were killed in clashes with the fighters in the Omaki Hassan Nekah area on the outskirts of Qalat, the provincial capital, on Wednesday night.
The clashes continued until Tuesday morning, he said, adding six fighters were also killed.
