GHAZNI: Seven civilians were killed in two separate roadside bombings in southern Ghazni province on Monday, the Interior Ministry said.

An improvised explosive device struck a civilian car in the Zardalo area of Qarah Bagh district at around 7:30 am, killing four occupants of the vehicle, the Ministry said in a statement.

The second incident took place in Ghazni City half an hour after the first, leaving three people dead including a woman, the statement said.

KABUL said in a statement on Monday.

It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities. But mostly American soldiers are deployed in eastern and southern Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Canadian Defence Ministry has announced that a Canadian soldier was killed in southern Kandahar province late on Sunday.

There are nearly 3000 Canadian soldiers currently deployed in Afghanistan. Since 2001, 157 Canadian soldiers have been killed across the country. 

This year, 274 international troops have been killed in Afghanistan, 195 of them American, according to the latest estimates.

KHOST: Sher Mohammad, a teacher, was killed by unidentified gunmen in southeastern Khost province, Ministry of Education Spokesman Abdul Sabur Ghufrani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The incident occurred around 7:00 am in the Nader Shah Kot district of the of the province as Mohammad was approaching the high school where he taught.

KUNAR: Over five Afghan civilian were killed and 15 others injured during the in eastern Kunar province as a result of cross-border shelling from Pakistan, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, the eastern zone border police commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

KUNAR: Over 38 insurgents were killed during a joint search operation conducted by Afghan and coalition forces in eastern Kunar province, according to a statement the ISAF media office for the eastern zone.

The operation targeted insurgents in different areas of the province. ISAF also took casualties in the operation, but the statement did give exact figures.

Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban‘s spokesman, confirmed the death of two of his fighters and the injury of eight and claimed that the Taliban had killed 13 American and two Afghan soldiers.

KUNDUZ: The ISAF media office in Kunduz said Monday that coalition forces had detained an unspecified number of militants during a joint operation with Afghan soldiers.

But District Chief Mohammad Ayub Haqyar told Pajhwok Afghan News that ISAF had conducted the operation, which took place overnight in the Imam Sahib district, without consulting Afghan security forces.

ISAF maintains that those detained were involved in ferrying bomb-making materials and munitions to militant networks. Haqyar said that ISAF had detained three people, and that one of them had no connection to the insurgents. Other local officials said that ISAF had detained a father and his two sons.

NANGARHAR: Three people were killed and 18 others were injured in two separate traffic accidents in eastern Nangarhar province, the provincial traffic department chief said Monday. One accident occurred on the Ring Road and the other in the Samarkhel area of the Behsud district.

NIMROZ: A 45-year-old woman has been detained in an alleged attempt to smuggle 140 grams’ worth of drugs into a prison in southwestern Nimroz province, Provincial Jail Chief Sher Ahmad told Pajhwok Afghan News on Monday.

Prosecutors are still investigating.

URUZGAN: Four Taliban commanders have been killed and one arrested in joint operations led by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers in central Uruzgan province, provincial police chief Col. Fazel Ahmad told Pajhwok Afghan News on Monday.

The operation took place overnight in Sarki area of the Charino district.

ZABUL: A police officer was killed in an insurgent attack in southern Zabul province, an official said on Monday.

The incident took place in the Haji Asghar area of the Provincial Deputy Governor Mohammad Jan Rasul told Pajhwok Afghan News. Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed responsibility on behalf of the Taliban.
