KABUL): A number of contractors are committing corruption in executing foreign-funded projects in eastern Khost province, Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi alleged on Friday.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony for Terazai and Alisher district headquarters buildings, Naeemi accused contractors of providing wrong information to donors soon after embarking on reconstruction schemes.

According to a statement from the governor’s office, Naeemi said most contractors use insecurity as a pretext to abandon the projects and conceal their corruption. As a result, he deplored, residents are deprived of much-needed facilities.

He urged religious scholars and tribal elders to share information regarding such projects with the authorities, and thereby enable the government to initiate action against the corrupt contractors.

A number of reconstruction schemes for Alisher district have been proposed in the Strategic Five-Year Plan, said the governor, who asked residents to help provide security for the projects.
