KANDAHAR CITY (PAN, officials on Wednesday.

The first explosion happened in the Kuchi village in seventh police district of Kandahar City on Tuesday noon, said the governor’s spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi.

The blast took place when a child stepped on a mine while playing in the area. The child was killed on the spot.

The second blast took place on Tuesday night in the Spin Boldak district. Two Kuchi tribesmen were killed in the roadside bombing. The two were walking the road when the blast occurred.

Nearly 200 roadside blasts took place during the past three months, leaving 19 people dead and another 32 wounded in Zherai and Maiwand districts, according to local officials.

In neighbouring Zabul province, one policeman was killed and another wounded in a blast in the Shah Joy district.

Mohammad Sadiq, the district chief, said the blast ripped through a police vehicle around 10am. On a patrol in the area between the district centre and the Kajirkhel village, the policemen came under attack.

A security post officer was killed and a policeman wounded in the blast that comprehensively damaged their vehicle, Sadiq said. The injured policeman was taken to a health facility of foreign troops.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. Their spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, said four Afghan policemen had been killed in the attack, a claim dismissed by the district chief.
